In a few weeks, I have the chance to perform in Seattle with two long-time friends from Central Washington University. Violinist Carrie Rehkopf and cellist John Michel will be joining me for a chamber concert at Southminster Presbyterian Church on October 27.
We’ll have a chance to try out the new piano trio just finished, based on the spiritual, “Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho”. I tried to describe the walls of Jericho “tumbling down” by using string glissandos and descending chromatic scales. I wanted to use some unusual techniques to depict the miracle of this Bible story and what resulted from Joshua’s obedience to God.
Last month we met at the Icicle Creek Music Center, right in the middle of the Cascade Mountains near Leavenworth, WA. Making music in this environment is amazingly motivating and life-giving. It is a great place to try out these new pieces of music and to prepare them for live performances and for eventual publication.
Our concert takes place next month at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Normandy Park (South Seattle) at 7pm, October 27, 2023. If you’re in the area, please join us!
